The San Francisco Civil War Round Table Meeting 16th September 2010
The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the introduction of guests.
The president announced that the current Board members had agreed to serve for another year. There being no other nominations, the following were unanimously elected: President: Patrick Doyle Vice President: Bob Quinn Treasurer: Joan Keller Secretary: Wayne Padgett Program Chair: Bob Bowen
Members were reminded that dues for the 2010 - 2011 season are now payable.
Gary Yee reported on the progress of the West Coast Conference (November 12 - 14). A stunning panel of top-class speakers has been assembled and bookings are arriving at a steady rate. Full details can be found here.
President Patrick Doyle donned his speaker's hat and presented a paper entitled "Lee's Visitor" which refers to a visit to Robert E. Lee by Lieutenant Garnet Wolseley of the British Army, just after the battle of Antietam. Wolseley had an amazing career, seeing active service in Burma, Crimea, India, China, Canada, Egypt, Cyprus, and South Africa. He rose through the ranks from Ensign to Field Marshal and Commander in Chief.
