More information can be found at this
link.

Mike Green of the San Joaquin Round Table reminded members that the 2013 West Coast
Civil War Conference
will take place on board ship (!) from November 1st to 4th.
More details will be published here as available.

Our guest speaker was
Tom Lubas, President of the North Bay Civil War Round Table and his
talk was entitled
"Benjamin Butler: Lincoln's Conundrum."
While not overlooking Butler's stunning military incompetence, Tom balanced his image with
accounts of Butler's legal and political expertise. He also made note of Butler's role as a loving
husband and devoted father. Many members said afterwards that they learned a lot about "The
Beast" that they had not known before, for example, that he was at one time the owner of the yacht
"America," after which the America's Cup is named. Butler ended a long career by serving as
Governor of Massachusetts.

Program Chair
Wayne Padgett announced that our February speaker will be John Martini,
speaking on the Civil War fortification of San Francisco and the Bay. Details
here.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15pm.
