San Francisco Civil War Round Table Meeting Thursday 15th October 2015 at the United Irish Cultural Center 2700 45th Avenue, San Francisco ==========================================================
The meeting opened at 6:45pm with the Pledge of Allegiance and the introduction of guests. Members expressed satisfaction with transition to email for the monthly meeting notice/newsletter and Treasurer Mary Kunitake was applauded for the seamless procedure. The Treasurer reported that most members had paid their dues and only a few delinquencies remain - you know who you are. Patrick Doyle announced that the annual West Coast Civil War Conference will take place in Tulare on November 13th - 15th. Details on our website under "Events."
Local author Monika Trobits gave a stunning presentation based on her book "Antebellum and Civil War San Francisco." With an engaging speaking personality and some excellent graphics she covered the period from the Missouri Compromise to the death of Lincoln, managing to introduce almost every known person to have had any links to San Francisco. Members particularly enjoyed slides where she paired Civil War personalities with the street signs named after them. A segment included mention of the eighteen Civil War generals connected with San Francisco. A lively question and answer session concluded a most enjoyable performance.
Program Chair Bob Hubbs announced that the November presenter will be Art Buckley speaking on "Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery." The meeting ended at 9:20pm.
