Almost thirty people assembled for the first meeting of the new season
which opened wth the Pledge of Allegiance led by
Steve Harrington.  This was
followed by the introduction of members and guests and
Mike McAdoo gave a
brief account of his amazing eleven thousand mile summer trip around the
United States.

The President informed the members present that the Board wished to
raise the annual dues to $30 for an individual and $40 for a couple. A motion to
this effect was made, seconded and approved with no one opposing. The
President pointed out that the new amounts are due in September, i.e.
now.

Bob Lawhon gave his always entertaining promotional speech for
Westerners, who meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month at L'Olivier on
Davis Street.

Alcatraz Living History
Day
on Saturday September 26th.

      Guest speaker
David Moore (above left), who in real life is a history guide
in Washington DC, spoke on
General Rosecrans (above right). He made an
impassioned case for the historical neglect of Rosecrans's abilities and
performance throughout the war. He also discussed the rift between
Grant and
Roscrans and did not exhibit any great liking for Grant. This led to some
energetic discussion with a member of the audience.

Program Chair Bob Hubbs announced that the October speaker will be
local author
Monika Trobits on the subject of San Francisco before and during
the Civil War.

      The meeting concluded at 9:00pm.
