San Francisco Civil War Round Table Meeting Thursday 17th September 2015 at the United Irish Cultural Center 2700 45th Avenue, San Francisco ========================================================== Almost thirty people assembled for the first meeting of the new season which opened wth the Pledge of Allegiance led by Steve Harrington. This was followed by the introduction of members and guests and Mike McAdoo gave a brief account of his amazing eleven thousand mile summer trip around the United States.
The President informed the members present that the Board wished to raise the annual dues to $30 for an individual and $40 for a couple. A motion to this effect was made, seconded and approved with no one opposing. The President pointed out that the new amounts are due in September, i.e. now.
Bob Lawhon gave his always entertaining promotional speech for Westerners, who meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month at L'Olivier on Davis Street.
Patrick Doyle encouraged members to attend Alcatraz Living History Day on Saturday September 26th.
Guest speaker David Moore (above left), who in real life is a history guide in Washington DC, spoke on General Rosecrans (above right). He made an impassioned case for the historical neglect of Rosecrans's abilities and performance throughout the war. He also discussed the rift between Grant and Roscrans and did not exhibit any great liking for Grant. This led to some energetic discussion with a member of the audience.
Program Chair Bob Hubbs announced that the October speaker will be local author Monika Trobits on the subject of San Francisco before and during the Civil War.
